Dianne Reeves: Christmas Time is Here
George Weston Recital Hall
This holiday-themed show will feature selections from Dianne Reeves' widely-acclaimed album, Christmas Time is Here and other holiday favourites!
Dianne Reeves’ Grammy® history tells it all. Reeves has won the Grammy Award for Best Vocal Jazz Performance for three consecutive recordings and is the first to do this in any vocal category.
Her unmistakable vocal prowess, improvisational virtuosity, and vocal style has led her to record and perform with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, and has become the first creative chair for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Her latest album, Beautiful Life, which was the latest to win a Grammy, only furthers Reeves’ influence on vocal jazz and cements her legacy in the genre. Reeves returns to Toronto but the first time at the George Weston Recital Hall for a special holiday music program, reimagining Christmas songs in her own inimitable style.
For this performance, Reeves will focus on selections from Christmas Time is Here , a recording so musical and pleasurable that it falls into that rare category of Christmas albums—it’s simply a great record. “I love the big gray December sky hovering outside my kitchen window when it’s Christmas,” said Reeves. “Inside, I’m cooking for about thirty people with mellow music in the background. It’s the time for me to cook, sit back, relax and float.” Well, sit back and relax, because tonight, Christmas time is… here.
"Everything she sang, from "The Christmas Waltz" and "Let It Snow!" to "Our Love Is Here to Stay" and "Misty," and even some sung patter between songs, was earnest, completely at ease and mesmerizing." - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
“Not only does she nail all the things that define great jazz singers, but she also expands the idea of what a jazz vocalist is.” – NPR
